Role-model role

Nancy Sakovich has created a TV persona with her portrayal of smart, hip women in ads for Jamieson vitamins and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, among others. Now, her role as a park warden in the new CanWest Global adventure series Destiny Ridge, which debuts in November, is in line with her concern for being a role model for women.

“My character is very together,” said Sakovich. “She’s a very independent, modern woman.” Much like Sakovich herself, who holds a degree in environmental sciences from Trent University in Peterborough, Ont.

“I don’t want to do the bimbo stuff,” added the native of nearby Belleville. “You do have choices, and as you make choices it may change somebody’s mind. It’s not just women’s lib–it’s about people living together as people.”
